Route 15 ramps to close in Jefferson with temporary detours
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a temporary detour and the closing of two ramps to Route 15 as part of the third stage of a project to replace the Weldon Road-Espanong Road bridge deck over all lanes of Route 15 in Jefferson, Morris County.
The right shoulders on Route 15 are scheduled to be closed early in the morning on Tuesday, June 4 in both directions (north & southbound) in the vicinity of the bridge, and the Route 15 southbound ramp to Weldon Road and the ramp from Weldon Road to Route 15 northbound will be closed as well. A temporary detour will be implemented in Stage 3, utilizing Edison Road and Espanong Road. Traffic on the bridge will move to the newly resurfaced eastbound lanes and will continue to have one lane maintained in each direction in the vicinity of the Route 15 Bridge as the project progresses.
All travel-lanes on Route 15 will be maintained under the bridge during peak travel hours, with occasional single-lane closures during off-peak hours.
The $2.7 million federally-funded project includes replacing the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck and parapets, and minor substructure repair to the concrete piers and abutment walls. The existing bridge was built in 1973.
NJDOT anticipates the project being completed by the end of 2013.
