NJDOT to improve pavement along stretches
of four different state highways
in Hunterdon and Mercer counties
Regional maintenance resurfacing contract begins this week
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project is expected to begin construction this week in Hunterdon and Mercer counties.
NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway on four different highways at the following locations:
• Route 202 northbound from just south of Route 31 (milepost 5.69) in the Ringoes section of West Amwell to just north of CR 514 (Old York Road) in East Amwell (milepost 7).
• Route 29 in both directions from just south of Route 179 (milepost 18.8) in Lambertville to the border with West Amwell (milepost 18.1).
• Route 29 in both directions from the D&R Canal (near milepost 9.38) to Route 175 (W. Upper Ferry Road) in Ewing (milepost 8.5).
• Route 29 southbound from south of Calhoun Street (milepost 4.18) to just north of Lalor Street in Trenton (milepost 2.63).
• Route 33 in both directions from west of Paxson Avenue in Hamilton (milepost 4.98) to the interchange with Route 130 in Robbinsville (milepost 7.84).
• The entirety of Route 156 in both directions (milepost 0 to milepost 1.24) in Hamilton.
The $6.5 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, vicinity of side streets, ramp and shoulders. All utility hardware (manholes) will be rest within the roadway to improve final surface course rideability and ADA-compliant curb ramps will be constructed where necessary. The highways will be restriped and new image-detection cameras will be installed at selected intersections to replace the existing underground loop detectors.
NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Arawak Paving, Co., plans to begin initial construction activity on Route 202 in East Amwell this week. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane at each location during peak period travel hours. Access to all businesses will be maintained. All work in the contract is expected to complete in late-fall 2013.
