Route 57 capacity restored at one work location
in Mansfield
Contractor completes bridge replacement work on two of three individual bridges being addressed

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that bridge replacement work has been completed and full capacity has been restored at one of two active construction zones in Mansfield Township as the contractor advances the ongoing $1.8 million project - which began construction in February – to replace the superstructures of two bridges located over branches of the Musconetcong River (at mileposts 13.91 and 14.07) and one located over Hances Brook (at milepost 18.1).

NJDOT’s contractor, H&G Contractors, Inc., completed the bridge reconstruction work at the two Musconetcong River bridge locations earlier this week and restored Route 57 to the normal lane configuration on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, removing the detour that had been in place.

Construction currently continues on the westbound half of the bridge at milepost 18.13 (over Hances Brook). During this stage, Route 57 westbound will be closed and detoured at the milepost 18.13 bridge, with eastbound traffic maintained.

• Westbound traffic is being directed to Airport Road to Rockport Road to Thomas Road to Heiser Road returning to Route 57

Following the completion of the westbound half of the bridge, the contractor will switch the work zone to then replace the eastbound bridge superstructure.

The project is being advanced in three stages, with corresponding traffic shifts, closures and detours necessary. In addition, a truck detour was implemented at the start of construction and remains in place around the project limits. The truck detour will utilize only state highways as local roads are not suitable for truck traffic. NJDOT anticipates the project being completed by the end of 2013.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
