Bridge painting contract to address Shore area structures underway in Monmouth and Ocean counties
Twelve individual bridges to be painted and sealed
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that a large-scale bridge painting contract - which will addressed twelve individual bridge structures in the Monmouth and Ocean County shore areas – is underway.
NJDOT’s painting contractor, Anka Painting Co., is performing the $3.2 million bridge painting work utilizing lane closures during off-peak hours on the state highways and local roadways at each location. Painting is an important element to maintaining the structural integrity of a bridge. In addition to preparing and repainting the structural steel and metal surfaces of each bridge, the contractor will be water-proofing, caulking and lubricating the bearings. Minor deck joint, substructure concrete and steel structure repairs will be made at select locations as needed.
The twelve bridges being addressed in this contract are;
Monmouth Boulevard over Route 18 in Wall Township, Monmouth County
Belmar Boulevard over Route 18 in Wall Township, Monmouth County
Brighton Avenue over Route 18 in Wall Township, Monmouth County
Route 18 northbound over Route 33 in Neptune Township, Monmouth County
Route 18 southbound over Route 33 in Neptune Township, Monmouth County
Fordham Road pedestrian bridge over Route 18 in Neptune Township, Monmouth County
Route 34 northbound over Route 18 in Colts Neck Township, Monmouth County
Route 34 southbound over Route 18 in Colts Neck Township, Monmouth County
Route 71 over Wreck Pond in Sea Girt Boro, Monmouth County
Route 71 over Shark River between Avon-by-the-Sea and Belmar in Monmouth County
Route 72 over Hilliards Thorofare in Stafford Township, Ocean County
Route 72 over East Thorofare in Ship Bottom Boro, Ocean County
The contractor has begun the project at the Route 18 overpass locations in Wall Township earlier this week, and will progress to the other locations. NJDOT anticipates project completion by the end of 2014.
