NJDOT reopens County Route 539
in Manchester Township earlier than anticipated
Work to install new railroad crossing completed a day early
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced the completion of the railroad crossing repair project and the reopening of Ocean County Road 539 in Manchester Township to traffic a day earlier than originally anticipated.
CR 539 was closed to traffic in both directions on Monday, June 24 and had been expected to remain closed to around 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. A local and a truck detour had been utilized to move motorists around the area while the road was closed allowing the freight rail contractor to replace the old crossing - which had been buried in the asphalt roadway - with a new concrete freight rail crossing. NJDOT also repaved the asphalt approaches on CR 539.
The work had been coordinated with Manchester officials and emergency responders. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
