Route 17 southbound resurfacing project announced for northern Bergen County
NJDOT to improve around four miles of highway
from Ramsey to Saddle River
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a project to resurface close to four miles of Route 17 southbound from Airmount Avenue (CR 83) in Ramsey Borough to the vicinity of Cameron Road in Saddle River, Bergen County.
NJDOT’s contractor, Della Pello Paving Inc., is scheduled to start preliminary construction activities including site mobilization and sign installation this week, requiring shoulder closures.
The $2.9 million project will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of Route 17 from milepost 23.1 to milepost 19.6 - through Ramsey, Upper Saddle River, Allendale and Saddle River - including all travel lanes, turn lanes and shoulders. The highway will be restriped and some minor surface repair work will be made to the Route 17 southbound bridge over Allendale Road.
Route 17 southbound carries three mainline travel lanes through the entire project limit. The paving work will be performed overnight, requiring single and double-lane closures but NJDOT will maintain at least one Route 17 southbound travel lane at all times. Access to all businesses will be maintained.
All work associated with the project - designed in-house by NJDOT engineers to improve the surface course rideability of the roadway - is expected to complete this fall 2013.
NJDOT also recently began another project to resurface Route 17 in both directions around the southern terminus of the highway in Rutherford.
