Osborne Avenue closure extended in Bay Head
for NJ TRANSIT rail crossing replacement
Local detour remains in place through Wednesday
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the ongoing full closure of Osborne Avenue will be extended for approximately four more days in Bay Head, Ocean County.
Osborne was closed to traffic in both directions on Thursday, July 18 with the reopening of the road anticipated for Saturday, July 27. Based on the extent of the work, the curvature of the crossing and some weather-related delays, this closure has now been extended through Wednesday, August 1 until around 8 p.m.
Traffic continues to be detoured using Route 35 and Bay Avenue. The closure and local detour has not proven to have any impacts in the area.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing the railroad contractor is replacing the existing NJ TRANSIT crossing with a new concrete rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
