Railroad-crossing repairs announced
in Woodstown, Salem County
Necessary safety work will require road closures on South Main Street and East Millbrook Avenue next week with short detours
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced two planned railroad crossing repair projects will require the temporary closure of South Main Street and East Millbrook Avenue next week - over different durations - in Woodstown, Salem County.
• South Main Street is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the freight rail crossing just east of Bacon Lane from 9 a.m. on Monday, August 12 until around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14. Traffic will be detoured using Bailey Street and Lotus Avenue.
• East Millbrook Avenue is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the freight rail crossing just west of Shirley Street from 7 a.m. on Thursday, August 15 until around 7 p.m. on Friday, August 16. Traffic will be detoured using South Main Street and East Lake Road.
Access will be maintained to residential properties and businesses on either side of the rail lines. If the work is completed earlier at either location, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossings in Woodstown the freight rail contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing bed, install new tracks and repave the asphalt approaches. Safety warning upgrades will be made at each location. These projects are included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
