Route 57 bridge work completed
ahead of schedule in Mansfield
NJDOT restored three individual bridges to a state-of-good repair
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that bridge replacement activities have been completed in association with the ongoing $1.8 million project to address three structurally-deficient bridges along Route 57 in Mansfield, Warren County.
All highway closures, detours and truck detours have been lifted and Route 57 has been restored to the normal traffic configuration throughout the project limit, approximately three weeks ahead of the original schedule.
NJDOT’s contractor, H&G Contractors, Inc., began work in February to replace the superstructures of two Route 57 bridges located over branches of the Musconetcong River (at mileposts 13.91 and 14.07) and one located over Hances Brook (at milepost 18.1). Work on the two bridges over the Musconetcong River was completed in June, while the replacement of the bridge over Hances Brook wrapped up over the weekend.
“Upgrading these Route 57 bridges from the structurally-deficient list to a state-of-good repair exemplifies the Christie Administration’s commitment to improving the state's aging highway bridges,” said Commissioner James S. Simpson.
The project was advanced in stages, with corresponding traffic shifts, closures and detours necessary. In addition, a truck detour was implemented at the start of construction. The contractor will now focus on finalizing minor punchlist items as NJDOT anticipates the project being fully completed by fall 2013, months ahead of the original completion schedule of early-2014.
