Tonnelle Circle

this week
(Trenton) - New Jersey
Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
officials today announced that the
lower level of Route 139 westbound will
be closed at 10 p.m. tonight through
5 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, as the
inspection of the concrete over the
roadway continues. Traffic from the
Holland Tunnel will be directed to Route
139 Upper Level westbound. Work is expected to shift to Route
139 Lower Level eastbound on or about
Tuesday night, September 10, and continue
through Saturday morning, September
14, with inspections being conducted
overnight from 11:00 p.m. through
4:00 a.m. the next day. This will
require the closing of the Pulaski
Skyway northbound at the Broadway
Avenue exit. Traffic will be detoured
to 1&9 Truck southbound to Communipaw
Avenue, Kennedy Boulevard and 139
Upper Level eastbound.
Additionally, the unrelated work
to replace the concrete deck over
the Tonnelle circle will require
the continued closure of the ramps
from Tonnelle Circle to Route 139
Lower Level eastbound overnight during
the week starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight.
Detours:
- Cars will be directed
to Tonnelle Avenue southbound
to St. Paul's Avenue eastbound to
Kennedy Boulevard northbound
and onto Route 139 Upper Level eastbound.
- Trucks will be directed south
on Route 1&9 Truck to Communipaw
Avenue eastbound to Kennedy Boulevard
northbound and onto Route 139
Upper Level eastbound.
- Traffic on
Route 1&9
Truck northbound in Kearny and
Jersey City will be directed
to Communipaw Avenue and then
to Kennedy Boulevard and Route
139 Upper Level.
- Trucks that have
reached Tonnelle Circle will
be directed north on Route 1&9 northbound
to County Road where they can make
a U-turn onto Route 1&9 southbound
and then to Route 1&9 Truck southbound
to Communipaw Avenue.
The height restriction for the right-lane
ramp from Route 1&9T to Route
139 eastbound has been lifted during
the day. However, the truck detour
using Communipaw Avenue and Kennedy
Boulevard remains in place during
the overnight hours. A video
visualization is available online to
help motorists understand these
associated impacts.
The precise timing of the work is
subject to change due to weather or
other factors. Motorists are
encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic
information website www.511nj.org for
real-time travel information.
