NJDOT announces Route 30 resurfacing project
in Camden County
More than five miles of deteriorated pavement to be improved
at two locations through nine municipalities
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a project to resurface more than five miles of Route 30 (White Horse Pike) in both directions through nine municipalities in Camden County.
NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc., is scheduled to start preliminary construction activities including sign installation and curb repair work next week, requiring single-lane and shoulder closures. The $3.7 million project will resurface Route 30 in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement at two locations:
Work will take place between Brand Avenue in Clementon and progress westbound through Lindenwold, Laurel Springs, and Stratford, to Evergreen Avenue in Somerdale. Construction will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily beginning Monday, September 16.
Resurfacing also will take place between approximately Warwick Road in Magnolia Boro through Lawnside and Barrington to Grove Street in Haddon Heights.
The project will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings. Upgraded roadway striping and ADA-compliant curb ramp upgrades will also be provided as needed. New image detection cameras will be installed at certain intersections to replace the existing, underground loop detectors. These cameras are linked to traffic signals and help maximize the capacity of Route 30.
Initial construction operations will include curb ramp repairs with mainline resurfacing operations beginning soon after. Resurfacing work will be performed at night in order to minimize traffic impacts on Route 30, a major commuter route to the City of Philadelphia. Access will be maintained to all businesses and residences along the state highway throughout construction.
The project - designed in-house by NJDOT engineers - is scheduled for completion this winter. NJDOT recently completed a similar resurfacing of Route 30 just to the east of these locations.
Dynamic message signs will notify motorists of all upcoming traffic pattern changes. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org real-time travel information.
