New Jersey Turnpike widening contract includes
reconfiguration of Interchange 8
(Trenton) - NJDOT and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced that a new Route 133/Hightstown Bypass bridge over Route 33 has been opened to traffic east of the New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 8 in East Windsor, Mercer County.
NJTA’s contractor, Ferreira-Crisdel JV, began construction of the new bridge over Route 33 in June 2011. The new connection - fully opened to motorists as of September 16 - is included as part of a $35 million contract associated with the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program.
The new Route 133 bridge was built to support a grade separated, direct connection (or single-point interchange) from Route 33 to the new Interchange 8 Toll Plaza complete with new access ramps. The project is reconstructing local roadways along the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike and making drainage improvements, lighting upgrades and traffic signal modifications as well.
Construction began on the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program in 2009 and the entire project is expected to be complete in 2014.

There is a new traffic pattern in place on Route 133 at the Route 33 / NJ Turnpike Interchange 8. Motorists now need to exit from the right lane in order to get to Route 33 East / West corridor. Motorists are urged to pay close attention to the signs when traveling thru this area.
