Railroad-crossing repairs announced
at two locations
in Downe Township
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced two freight railroad crossing repair projects are planned for the Winchester & Western crossings on Ackley Road (CR 565) and Wescott Station Road over the next two weeks in Downe Township, Cumberland County.
• Ackley Road (CR 565) is scheduled to be closed to traffic at the Winchester & Western railroad crossing from 7 a.m. on Friday, October 11 until around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 13. Motorists will be detoured using Narrow Lane Road, Main Street, Mill Road and Methodist Road.
• The Wescott Station Road crossing - located just west of the Ackley Road crossing – is scheduled to be replaced utilizing traffic shifts with alternating traffic between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, October 14.
Access will be maintained to residential properties and businesses on each local road, either side of the rail line.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossings the freight rail contractor will replace the existing crossings with new rubber freight rail crossings and repave the asphalt approaches. These projects are included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
