Railroad-crossing repairs announced for CR 523
in Readington Township
Necessary safety work will require the county road
to be closed for a week
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a planned railroad crossing repair project that will require a week-long closure of Main Street/Flemington Road (CR 523) next week in Readington, Hunterdon County.
CR 523 is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the NJ TRANSIT rail crossing just south of Railroad Avenue from 9 a.m. on Friday, November 8, until around 9 a.m. on Friday, November 15. Traffic will be detoured using Route 22 and Readington Road (CR 620 and CR 637).
Access will be maintained to residential properties and businesses on either side of the rail line. The detour has been coordinated with the Readington Police Department.
If the work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide a safer and smoother NJ TRANSIT railroad crossing in Readington the rail contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing bed, install new tracks, and repave the asphalt approaches. This approximately $200,000 project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
