Update - Route 9 northbound ramp closures extended at interchange with Bordentown Avenue in Sayreville
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the weekend closure of the entrance and exit ramps between Route 9 northbound and Bordentown Avenue in Sayreville has been extended due to unforeseen circumstances and additional work required.
NJDOT’s contractor, Intercounty Paving Associates, closed the ramp connections between Route 9 northbound and Bordentown Avenue on Friday night, November 1 with the original intent to reopen the ramps around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 4. These ramp connections will remain closed until further notice and the following detour routes remain in effect:
• Route 9 northbound motorists destined for Bordentown Avenue will be directed to continue to the Route 9/Route 35 merge to use Raritan Street to Route 9 southbound back to Bordentown Avenue.
• Bordentown Avenue eastbound motorists destined for Route 9 northbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to Route 35 southbound to make the first U-turn to Route 9/35 northbound.
• Bordentown Avenue westbound motorists destined for Route 9 northbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to Ernston Road to Route 9 northbound.
The contractor had planned to close the Route 9 southbound ramp connections over the weekend of November 8, but those closures are likely to be rescheduled.
The $37.6 million project is repaving sections of deteriorated pavement on Route 9 in both directions from milepost 116.7 in Manalapan Township, through Marlboro, Old Bridge, Sayreville, and South Amboy to the vicinity of milepost 135.6 in Woodbridge Township. The project will extend the useful life and improve the surface rideability of the highway, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders, ramps and median openings. The project, which was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers, is expected to be completed in fall 2014.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
