Airport Improvement Grants
State and federal investments in New Jersey airports exceeds $50 million over four years
(Trenton) - The Christie Administration today announced three airport grants totaling $80,064 in state funds to support airport improvement projects. These funds, which leverage federal funding, will support a total of $1.6 million worth of work.
The Christie Administration has invested more than $13.7 million in New Jersey’s general aviation airports in the past four years, leveraging an additional $35.3 million in federal grants and $2.2 million from airport owners, for a total of $51.2 million in airport improvements and management.
The grants, provided through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Multimodal Grants and Programs, will advance runway and taxiway repairs and improvements at Ocean County Airport, Essex County Airport, and Linden airport.
These grants represent 5 percent of the total cost of the projects, with the airport owners providing 5 percent and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) providing 90 percent.
In addition to these airport grants, NJDOT announced that it has received $367,139 from the FAA to cover 90 percent of the cost of two studies the Department is sponsoring. These studies will collect and analyze the condition of pavement at 17 airports to help guide maintenance investments and will evaluate the economic benefits of 37 airports on local and state economies.
