Overnight lane closures announced
for Interstate 95/Route 42/I-76 interchange
Detours in place to allow for restriping in Camden County
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures on two separate nights for restriping as the Direct Connection project at the interchange of Interstate 295/Interstate 76/Route 42 in Bellmawr and Mt. Ephraim, Camden County advances.
Saturday night
From 10 p.m. Saturday, December 7, through approximately 8 a.m. Sunday, December 8, the connection from I-295 northbound to I-76 westbound and the connection from Route 42 northbound to Interstate 76 westbound local lanes will be closed. The following detours will be posted:
• I-295 northbound motorists heading toward I-76 westbound local lanes will be directed to Exit 28, Route 168, and immediately back to I-295 southbound to I-76 westbound local lanes.
• Route 42 northbound traffic heading toward 295 northbound will continue onto I-76 westbound and be directed to use the Market Street exit and U-turn onto I-76 eastbound to I-295 northbound.
• I-76 westbound express lanes will not be affected.
Monday night
From 9 p.m. Monday, December 9, through approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, up to three out of four express and local lanes on I-76 westbound will be closed for restriping. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to stay alert or plan alternate routes.
The $900 million federally funded Direct Connection project will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange – through which approximately 250,000 vehicles travel daily to and from Camden, Philadelphia and other destinations. The project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract in the fall of 2021.
Dynamic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the closure and detour. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
