Overnight lane closures tonight on Interstate 295 southbound and ramp to Route 42 southbound
Detour in place for restriping in Camden County
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures tonight on I-295 southbound and Route 42 southbound, as the Direct Connection project at the interchange of Interstate 295/Interstate 76/Route 42 in Bellmawr and Mt. Ephraim, Camden County advances.
From 9 p.m. tonight, December 27, through approximately 5 a.m. Saturday, December 28, the left lane on I-295 southbound from approximately the Browning Road overpass to the Creek Road overpass, and the ramp from I-295 southbound to Route 42 southbound will be closed for restriping. One lane will be maintained on I-295 during the work. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to stay alert or plan alternate routes.
The following detour will be posted:
• I-295 southbound motorists heading toward Route 42 southbound will be directed to Exit 26 onto I-76 westbound, and then be directed to use the Market Street exit and U-turn onto I-76 eastbound/Route 42 southbound.
The $900 million federally funded Direct Connection project will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange – through which approximately 250,000 vehicles travel daily to and from Camden, Philadelphia and other destinations. The project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract in the fall of 2021.
Dynamic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the closure and detour. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
