New Garden State Parkway access from Route 70 announced in Lakewood
Major reconstruction work at Interchanges 88 and 89 progresses
(Trenton) - NJDOT and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced that access from Route 70 to the Garden State Parkway northbound has been reconfigured at interchanges 88 and 89 in Lakewood, Ocean County.
As of late 2013, NJTA’s contractor, Earle Asphalt Company, has closed the old jughandle ramp from Route 70 eastbound to GSP northbound. Route 70 eastbound traffic destined for the GSP northbound is now directed to use the recently opened, reconfigured ramp at Shorrock Street. From the jughandle ramp at Shorrock, traffic proceeds across Route 70 to utilize an entirely new ramp connecting to the widened toll plaza at Interchange 89. Additional, temporary traffic pattern changes have been put in place as well;
- Traffic travelling on Route 70 westbound will have direct access to the Parkway northbound only.
- There is no access to Shorrock Street at this time. Drivers wishing to exit to Shorrock Street will need to proceed to the U-Turn at the Interchange 88 exit ramp and make the right onto Shorrock Street.
- There will be no access to Cedar Bridge Avenue at this time.
The NJTA is reconstructing the bridges over Route 70 as part of a $70 million contract to widen the GSP to restore full roadway shoulders between milepost 83 and milepost 90 in Ocean County. The work at this location also involves a reconfiguration and expansion of Interchange 88. Construction began in February and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
