All lanes on Route 70 westbound bridge over Route 38 reopening this weekend
Bridge deck replacement project nearing completion
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the reopening of all travel lanes on the Route 70 westbound bridge over Route 38 in Pennsauken, Camden County, as the project moves into its final stage.
At 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, January 31, NJDOT’s contractor, R.E. Pierson Construction, is scheduled to re-open the right travel lane, making available the normal compliment of all three travel lanes. The remaining work to complete a permanent stairway and sidewalk will continue behind barriers and will not affect traffic.
The bridge – located at milepost 0.7, near the western terminus of the highway - carries Route 70 westbound traffic into the merge with Route 38 westbound toward the interchange with Route 30 and Route 130.
The $3.9 million project to replace the bridge deck, upgrade existing safety features including bridge parapets and guide rail, and install ADA compliant cross-walks in the vicinity of the bridge began in April 2013.
NJDOT will utilize multiple dynamic message signs on Route 70, Route 38 and Interstate 295 to alert motorists to all upcoming traffic impacts.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
