NJDOT to make priority pothole repairs on Route 22 westbound
Temporary lane closures in Somerset County starting February 2
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced temporary lane closures on Route 22 westbound to repair potholes in North Plainfield and Watchung, Somerset County.
A four-mile stretch of Route 22 westbound from approximately the Blue Star Shopping Center/Terrill Road in Watchung to Rock Avenue in North Plainfield has significant pothole damage and requires priority repair.
On Saturday, February 22, between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. NJDOT’s contractor, Schiavone Construction, will use hot asphalt to patch the most serious potholes in this area, requiring temporary lane closures of the right and center lanes as necessary.
Next week, the contractor will mill and pave the right and center lanes on this section of Route 22 westbound, working from 6 a.m. through 4 p.m. beginning on Monday, February 24. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, February 28. At least one lane will be maintained during construction, however motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes.
Eastbound traffic is not affected by the construction.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
