lanes
closed
for priority repair
in Rutherford
Ridge Road closed over Route 3;
Motorists
advised to seek alternate routes
(Trenton) – New
Jersey Department of Transportation
(NJDOT) officials today announced
lane closures in the eastbound direction
on heavily traveled Route 3, which
are necessary for priority repairs
to the Ridge Road overpass in Rutherford,
Bergen County.
A traffic incident this afternoon
caused damage to the Ridge Road
Bridge over Route 3, located three-quarters
of a mile east of Route 21 and the
Passaic River Bridge.
To ensure the safety of motorists,
NJDOT closed Ridge Road in both
directions over Route 3 and closed
all Route 3 eastbound lanes while
NJDOT engineers evaluate the situation.
Route 3 westbound traffic is not
affected by the work.
Motorists should expect delays
and seek alternate routes.
Crews are assessing the structure
and will determine what repairs
are required. Once the scope of
work is determined, a schedule for
the repair will be established.
NJDOT crews will coordinate with
local officials as the work progresses.
Portable variable message signs
are being utilized to provide advance
notification to the motoring public
of all traffic pattern changes associated
with the work.
The precise timing of the work
is subject to change due to weather or
other factors. Motorists are encouraged
to check NJDOT's traffic information
website www.511nj.org for
real-time travel information.
