NJDOT to make priority
repairs on Bridge Street in Metuchen

Bridge deck repairs and repaving
require full closure and detour next week

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a temporary week-long closure to repair and repave the bridge deck of Bridge Street over Amtrak rail lines in Metuchen, Middlesex County. 

The asphalt overlay on the bridge deck is failing necessitating a priority repair, which will require the temporary closure of the bridge and a detour while the work is being done.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 12 through midnight, Sunday, May 18, NJDOT’s maintenance crews will mill the existing surface, repair concrete, and repave the deck. The milling will be done with a back hoe to minimize vibration and noise, and will allow the work to be done without interfering with the Amtrak rail lines below. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day to minimize the impact on residents. However, the bridge will remain closed 24 hours a day during construction.

The following signed detours are in place:

• Southbound Bridge Street traffic will be directed to Middlesex Avenue to Lincoln Highway to Route 27 westbound

• Northbound Bridge Street traffic will be directed to Route 27 eastbound to Lincoln Highway to Middlesex Avenue to New Durham Road

• Emergency vehicles will continue to have access across the bridge during construction
