New traffic pattern on I-80 eastbound
in Parsippany-Troy Hills to begin tonight

Motorists should remain alert through construction zone

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a new traffic pattern will be implemented on Interstate 80 eastbound in Parsippany-Troy Hills as the safety and congestion relief project moves into a new stage.

Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, August 13, NJDOT's contractor, Union Paving & Construction Co., will eliminate the single express lane on the left side of I-80 eastbound and maintain all four travel lanes to the right of the work zone. This stage of construction was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, allowing the work zone to be reconfigured to eliminate the split lanes. By 5 a.m. Thursday, August 14 the new traffic pattern will be in place.

The next stage of construction will continue the reconstruction of I-80 eastbound and drainage improvements. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

This work is part of a $73.5 million federally funded project that began in August 2012 to completely rehabilitate and improve I-80 between the Route 202/Littleton Road interchange (milepost 41.5) and the Beverwyck Road interchange (milepost 45.6). The project also includes the reconfiguration of the I-80 eastbound exit ramp to both directions of I-287, as well as the Route 202 northbound ramp to I-80 eastbound to provide safer and more efficient traffic flow throughout the corridor.

Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming lane closures or traffic shifts. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
