Motorists should expect overnight
lane closures on I-80 eastbound tonight

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the opening of the ramp from Route 202 northbound to I-80 eastbound as part of the Interstate 80 roadway rehabilitation project in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County.

In preparation for opening the ramp, NJDOT’s contractor, Union Paving & Construction Co., is scheduled to close multiple lanes on I-80 eastbound beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 26, to restripe the roadway. The lane closures will be near the interchange with Route 202, and at least one lane will be maintained through the work zone.

By 6 a.m. Saturday, September 27, the newly constructed ramp from Route 202 northbound to I-80 eastbound will be opened. The new ramp will provide for safer and more efficient traffic flow onto I-80 eastbound.
Also tonight, traffic will be shifted to the newly reconfigured ramp from I-287 southbound to I-80 westbound, which was improved to meet current safety standards.

The $73 million project, which began construction in August 2012, is completely rebuilding all lanes of Interstate 80 between the Route 202/Littleton Road interchange (milepost 41.5) and the Beverwyck Road interchange (milepost 45.6), a very busy stretch of highway with an average of 159,000 vehicles traveling it daily.  The highway - which has deteriorated over time and is in need of a complete rehabilitation - is being reconstructed in stages to minimize impacts to motorists.  All I-80 travel lanes will remain open in each direction during peak-period hours throughout construction. Single and double-lane closures will be allowed during overnight and off-peak hours.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
