Route 9 southbound lanes to be closed this weekend for priority repairs to ramp onto Route 18 in Old Bridge
Exit ramp to remain open during construction
(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced weekend lane closures on Route 9 southbound in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, for priority repairs to the ramp from Route 9 northbound to Route 18 northbound.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Friday, November 7, NJDOT’s contractor IEW Construction, will close two southbound lanes on Route 9 near the interchange with Route 18. The lanes will remain closed until the repair is complete, which is expected to be by Sunday morning. One lane will be maintained throughout construction.
A routine inspection of the ramp, which goes over Route 9, found a crack in the fascia girder. A fascia girder is the outer most beam running the length of an elevated structure or bridge. NJDOT evaluation crews assessed the structure and determined the ramp was safe for motorists and shifted traffic to the right side of the ramp as a precaution to prevent further damage.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
