Route 42 northbound to be closed
overnight tonight and tomorrow night in Bellmawr
Detour in place for overnight work
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 42 northbound is scheduled to be closed tonight and tomorrow night in Bellmawr, Camden County as part of the Direct Connection project. Motorists should slow down, use caution, and expect overnight delays in the area.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, December 29 and tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 30, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, Inc., will close all lanes on Route 42 northbound near the Creek Road overpass for wood sheeting placement under newly placed bridge beams. Single lane closure will begin at 8 p.m. followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. and all lanes closed at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following mornings.
The following detour will be in place:
- All traffic will be detoured onto the Exit 1B ramp to I-295 northbound and then to Exit 27, which is a left exit, to get back onto Route 42 northbound/I-76 westbound.
The $900 million federally funded Direct Connection project will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange – through which approximately 250,000 vehicles travel daily to and from Camden, Philadelphia and other destinations. The project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract in the fall of 2021.
Dynamic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the lane closure and detours. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information. |
