I-76 eastbound lane closures to start tonight
Closures will last all week while I-295 bridge is repaired
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of lane closures this week while the I-295 bridge over I-76 is replaced as part of the Direct Connection project in Camden and Gloucester counties.
At 8pm tonight, Monday, January 5, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF-Mark III, Inc., will close one lane with subsequent lane closures beginning at 10pm for the placement of new bridge beams. Traffic stoppages will start at 11pm through 6am and last 15 minutes per stoppage. At least one lane will be maintained at all times unless during stoppages. This work schedule will be followed throughout the week.
The work is part of the Direct Connection project that will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange of I-295, I-76, and Route 42. The Direct Connection project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract expected in the fall of 2021. NJDOT's project website provides construction activity schedules and updates.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with Direct Connection. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for real-time travel information and plan their trips accordingly.
