(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the immediate closure of the right lane on Route 3 eastbound over the Hackensack River between East Rutherford and Secaucus, for emergency bridge repairs. In addition, trucks will be prohibited from driving in the left lane.
A scheduled inspection of the bridge identified flaws in the lower structural member. Further investigation found cracks in the steel requiring the right lane of the bridge to be closed this afternoon. The lane will remain closed until the repair is complete, which is expected to take about two weeks. Three lanes will be maintained throughout construction, however trucks will not be allowed in the left lane.
