Route 46 westbound lane closure for
emergency
bridge repairs in Clifton to begin today
Deck damage requires immediate repairs
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced lane closures on Route 46 westbound in Clifton beginning today to allow for emergency repairs to the bridge deck.
Beginning at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, February 5, an NJDOT maintenance contractor will close the right lane for repairs to the deck of the Route 46 westbound bridge crossing Piaget Avenue in Clifton. Once repairs to the right lane are complete, repairs to the left lane will begin. One lane will remain open at all times.
The repair work to both lanes should last approximately two weeks. The lane receiving repairs will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the week and 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the weekends. In addition to the deck repairs, 2,200 square feet of protective shielding will be installed underneath the bridge to ensure the safety of pedestrians on the Piaget Avenue sidewalks, which leads to the Christopher Columbus Middle School.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
