Detours in place for overnight work

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of overnight lane closures beginning tonight in Belmawr as part of the Direct Connection project. Motorists should slow down, use caution, and expect overnight delays in the area.

Route 42 northbound

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, Inc., will close one lane on Route 42 northbound at 8:00 p.m., followed by two lanes closed at 10:00 p.m., and three lanes closed at 11:00 p.m. for bracket installation on newly installed bridge beams. The work is expected to be completed by 5:00AM on Saturday morning.

The following detour will be in place:

All traffic will be detoured onto the Exit 1B ramp and then to Exit 27, which is a left exit, to get back onto Route 42 northbound/I-76 westbound.

The $900 million federally funded Direct Connection project will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange – through which approximately 250,000 vehicles travel daily to and from Camden, Philadelphia and other destinations. The project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract in the fall of 2021. 

Dynamic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the lane closure and detours.  The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
