I-295 northbound lane
closures in Bellmawr next week

Stop sign installed on ramp
from Route 168 northbound to I-295 southbound

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of lane closures on I-295 from mile post 27.6 to mile post 28.1 in Bellmawr, Camden County as part of the Direct Connection project.

Beginning at 9 p.m., Monday, June 15, NJDOT contractor, Conti Enterprises, will close the left two lanes on I-295 northbound to allow for lane striping and barrier installation. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. All Three lanes will be shifted to the right and reopened by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16.

Beginning at 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, Conti Enterprises will close the left two lanes on I-295 southbound to allow for lane striping and barrier installation. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. All Three lanes will be shifted to the right and reopened by 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 18. A stop sign will be installed at the ramp from Route 168 northbound onto I-295 southbound.

This marks the beginning of approximately three months of frequent traffic shifts on both the northbound and the southbound sides of I-295 as full depth reconstruction of these lanes proceeds. Motorists should be prepared for potential delays in this area overnight when traffic shifts occur.

The work is part of the $900 million Direct Connection project that will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange of I-295, I-76, and Route 42. The Direct Connection project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract expected in the fall of 2021. NJDOT's project website provides construction activity schedules and updates.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with Direct Connection.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for real-time travel information and plan their trips accordingly.
