Railroad-crossing repairs
announced for Bridgeton and Millville
Necessary safety work will require lane shifts
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced two railroad crossing rehabilitation projects that will require lane shifts in Bridgeton and Millville, Cumberland County.
On Tuesday, July 7 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Route 56/Landis Avenue in Bridgeton is scheduled to have half of the road closed with traffic shifted onto the shoulder to maintain one travel lane in both directions. Once the work is completed on one half of the crossing, traffic will be shifted to the opposite shoulder so work can be done on the other side of the road. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Bridgeton the freight rail contractor will be doing grading work to reinforce the crossing near the crossroad of Gershal Avenue.
On Wednesday, July 8 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Route 49/East Main Street in Millville is scheduled to have half of the road closed with traffic shifted onto the shoulder to maintain one travel lane in both directions. Once the work is completed on one half of the crossing, traffic will be shifted to the opposite shoulder so work can be done on the other side of the road. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Millville the freight rail contractor will be doing grading work to reinforce the crossing near the crossroad of North 6th Street.
These projects are included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information. |
