Emergency repairs closes lanes on
Route 22 eastbound in Scotch Plains
Motorists advised to use I-78 as an alternate route
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure of two lanes of Route 22 eastbound near Westfield Road in Scotch Plains for emergency repairs following flash flooding from last night’s storms. Traffic is getting by using the shoulder.
This closure will affect the morning commute, and motorists can expect congestion and delays, and are advised to plan your trips accordingly. Traffic is encouraged to use I-78 as an alternate route.
A portion of the highway in the eastbound direction was washed out at mile marker 48.1 where Route 22 crosses a creek, about one mile east of the Bonnie Burn Road.
NJDOT crews have been working overnight and are expected to complete the repairs later this morning, but an exact time on when all lanes will reopen is not certain at this time.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information. |
