Railroad-crossing repairs
announced for 5th Avenue in Paterson

Necessary safety work will require road closure and detour

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of 5th Avenue in Paterson, Passaic County.

5th Avenue is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the NJ TRANSIT railroad grade crossing near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Wait Street from 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, until         7 p.m. Friday, September 18.

• Eastbound traffic will be detoured using 6th Avenue, East Main Street/Wagaraw Road (CR504), Lincoln Avenue (CR653) and River Street.
• Westbound traffic will use Madison Avenue (CR649), 1st Avenue, Lincoln Avenue (CR653), East Main Street/Wagaraw Avenue (CR504) and 6th Avenue.

The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Paterson, the existing crossing will be replaced with a new concrete crossing and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
