I-80 westbound express lanes closed for emergency bridge repairs in Hackensack
Bridge joint requires immediate work
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the immediate emergency closure of the right express lane on I-80 westbound for emergency bridge work in Hackensack just past the split from I-95. One express lane will remain open through the evening commute.
After the evening commute, at approximately 8 p.m., the I-80 westbound express lanes will be closed along with the left lane in the local lanes to repair a bridge joint. Three local lanes will be maintained overnight. The work is expected to be completed by Saturday morning.
Motorists heading west from the George Washington Bridge should expect congestion and delays on I-80 and onto I-95, and may want to consider alternate routes such as the NJ Turnpike, Route 46, or Route 4.
NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
