Route 21 ramp project
completed
ahead of schedule in Clifton
Temporary closure and detour Friday night to remove barrier
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the $1.8 million deck replacement project of the Route 21 ramp to Route 3 westbound will be completed this weekend ahead of schedule. The construction project was originally expected to be completed in early 2016.
In preparation for returning the road to its permanent traffic configuration, the ramp will be closed overnight to remove traffic control devices.
Beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, December 4, through 7 a.m. Saturday, December 5, NJDOT’s contractor, J. Fletcher Creamer/Sanzari Inc., is scheduled to temporarily close the ramp that connects Route 21 northbound, Route 21 southbound and River Road in Clifton with Route 3 westbound for the removal of a traffic barrier and a return to a permanent traffic alignment.
After the temporary overnight closure and detour, the ramp will be reopened to its final traffic alignment. All traffic, including trucks will be allowed back on the ramp after the required detour work is complete on Saturday morning.
DETOUR ROUTE:
• Vehicles approaching from Route 21 northbound, Route 21 southbound, and River Road attempting to go to Route 3 westbound will be directed to Route 3 eastbound, to Route 17 northbound to Route 3 westbound
• All vehicles will need to follow detour on Friday evening
• Trucks will need to follow detour for the duration of the construction project
Variable message signs will be used to notify motorists of all traffic pattern changes.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
