Monmouth Road Bridge deck replacement project advances
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of single lane closures on I-195 this week near Interchange 16 to prepare for a stage change on the CR537/Monmouth County Road Bridge deck replacement project between the towns of Millstone, Monmouth County and Jackson, Ocean County.
Between 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day starting Tuesday, January 5 and continuing until Friday, January 8, NJDOT’s contractor, MidLantic Construction, LLC, is scheduled to alternate single lane closures on I-195 underneath CR537/Monmouth Road Bridge for the installation of temporary shielding and demolition work in preparation for Stage 2 of the Monmouth Road Bridge deck replacement project.
The single lane closures will begin with the I-195 eastbound lanes on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then move to the I-195 westbound lanes on Thursday and Friday. Additional alternating single lane closures will be required later in the month as the project advances. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.
Beginning at 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, January 8, CR537/Monmouth Road traffic will be shifted onto the newly completed eastbound side of the Monmouth Road Bridge, to allow work to begin on the westbound side of the bridge. The traffic shift will remain in place for several months.
The $1.8 million federally-funded CR537/Monmouth Road Bridge over I-195 deck replacement project began in September 2015 and is expected to be completed by summer 2016. NJDOT has designed the replacement work to be performed in two stages and will maintain one lane in each direction at all times allowing traffic to flow through the area, minimizing the effect on motorists.
Variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the project. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
