Route 46 overnight ramp closures and local detour necessary in Passaic County
Lackawanna Avenue southbound detour required for the Route 3/Route 46 Improvement Project
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced three overnight ramp closures from Route 46 and a detour of Lackawanna Avenue southbound as the Route 3/Route 46 Improvement Project advances in Clifton, Little Falls and Woodland Park of Passaic County.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, March 18, until 5 a.m. Saturday, March 19, NJDOT’s contractor, J.F. Creamer & Sanzari, is scheduled to temporarily close the following three ramps and provide signed detours during the overnight hours for tree removal:
• Ramp from Route 46 westbound to Notch Road; the “Great Notch/Cedar Grove/U-turn” exit
• Ramp from Route 46 eastbound to Clove Road
• Ramp from Clove Road to Route 46 eastbound
In addition to the ramp closures on Friday evening, Lackawanna Avenue southbound will be detoured onto Lower Notch Road for roadway improvements including; road widening, drainage installation, and utility relocations. Lackawanna Avenue northbound will remain open as a temporary one-way street for the duration of the improvements work.
The following detour will be in effect:
Lackawanna Avenue southbound detour:
• Lackawanna Avenue southbound motorists will be directed to turn right onto Lower Notch Road
• Traffic will turn right onto Route 46 eastbound
• Motorists will be directed to turn onto Notch Road
• At the end of the ramp, motorists will turn left and cross over Route 46 to complete the detour
The $40.8 million federally-funded Contract A portion of the Route 3, Route 46, Valley Rod and Notch/Rifle Camp Road Interchange Improvements project, which started construction in January 2016, includes the construction of a new two-way service road, three signalized intersections, and two single-lane roundabouts parallel to Route 46 westbound to remove local traffic from the state highway. The project is being accomplished with two contacts, and is expected to be completed in fall 2022.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the interchange improvements project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
