Route 322 overnight closures next week for
a traffic shift in Folsom
New stage in bridge replacement project
requires overnight detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a week of overnight closures on Route 322, as the bridge replacement project along the Route 54/Route 322 interchange advances in Folsom, Atlantic County.
Each night from at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day beginning Monday, March 28 until Friday morning April, NJDOT’s contractor South State Inc., is scheduled to temporarily close Route 322 westbound and eastbound to move concrete barriers and shift traffic to the outer lanes of Route 322. This will allow for construction along the median on Route 322 and on the pillars underneath the Route 54 overpass. Traffic on Route 54 will not be affected. The following detours will be in place.
Route 322 eastbound detour:
• Traffic traveling eastbound on Route 322 will be directed to make a left onto 14th Street, a right onto Mays Landing Road/ Route 73, a right onto 8th Street and then a left onto Route 322 eastbound.
Route 322 westbound detour:
• Traffic traveling westbound will be directed to take the Mays landing Road/Route 73 exit ramp to Mays Landing Road/Route 73. Proceed on Route 73 to 14th Street and make a left. Continue on 14th Street to Route 322 westbound.
The $24 million federally-funded Route 54/Route 322 interchange bridge replacement project which began in early 2014, is being constructed in stages and extends along Route 54 from south of Hospitality Creek Bridge, to just before the Great Egg Harbor River bridge, and along Route 322 from west of the existing railroad bridge to the east side of the existing interchange. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2016 and includes the following:
• Rehabilitation of the Route 54 over US Route 322 bridge
• Reconstruction of Route 54 over NJ TRANSIT and Hospitality Creek bridge
• Reconstruction of Route 322 over Cape May Point Branch bridge
• Construction of retaining walls to reduce wetlands and floodplain encroachments
• Milling and paving of Route 54 and Route 322 within the project limits
• Partial reconstruction work on existing ramps
• New signage and striping
• Drainage and storm water improvements
• New landscaping
• New roadway lighting
NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
