Railroad-crossing repairs begins this week
in Egg Harbor City
Necessary safety work will require road closures and detours

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced two railroad crossing rehabilitation projects that will require road closures and detours beginning this week in Egg Harbor City, Atlantic County.

Traffic on Bremen Avenue is scheduled to be closed in both directions at the NJ TRANSIT railroad grade crossing between Atlantic Avenue and Aloe Street from 7 a.m. Thursday, April 7, until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14.

The following detour will be in place:

Bremen Avenue Detour
• Traffic from Bremen Avenue will be directed to use Aloe Street, South New Orleans Avenue and Atlantic Avenue

In addition, traffic on Philadelphia Avenue/Route 50 is scheduled to be closed in both directions at the NJ TRANSIT railroad grade crossing, between Atlantic Avenue and West Atlantic Avenue from 7 a.m. Thursday, April 7, until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14.

The following detours will be in place:

Philadelphia Avenue Car Detour
• Local traffic from Philadelphia Avenue/Route 50 will be directed to use West Atlantic Avenue, Liverpool Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

Philadelphia Avenue Truck Detour
• Truck traffic will be directed to use Aloe Street, South Cologne Avenue and Route 30

The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossings in Egg Harbor City, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
