Route 18 northbound traffic to be shifted this weekend
as part of I-287 extension project in Piscataway
Route 18 northbound will be closed
between Ericsson Drive and Centennial Avenue
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that Route 18 northbound, will be closed from Ericsson Drive to north of Centennial Avenue with traffic shifted to the southbound side of Route 18 in Piscataway, Middlesex County as the I-287 extension project advances.
At 7 p.m., tomorrow, Friday, April 15, NJDOT’s contractor, Intercounty Paving Associates LLC, will close Route 18 northbound from Ericsson Drive to north of Centennial Avenue. Northbound traffic will be shifted onto the southbound side of Route 18, leaving one lane for traffic travelling south and two lanes for northbound traffic.
The traffic shift is necessary for the reconstruction of Hoes Lane over the Ambrose Brook Bridge and from Ericsson Drive to Centennial Avenue. The work is expected to be completed this summer.
The work is part of a $28 million project that began in 2012 to retrofit the existing Hoes Lane/Centennial Avenue corridor to convert these local roadways into the final portion of Route 18, extending the four-lane arterial state highway approximately 2.5 miles to its new northern terminus at I-287.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info. |
