Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week
in East Brunswick
Necessary safety work will require road closures and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a road closure and detour beginning this week in East Brunswick, Middlesex County.
The one-way traffic on Emerson Street is scheduled to be closed at Main Street, before the Conrail freight railroad grade crossing between Main Street and Squire Street from 7 a.m. Saturday, May 14, until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 15.
The following detour will be in place:
From Main Street to Emerson Street Detour
• Traffic will be directed from Main Street/CR615 to River Road/CR677, Chestnut Avenue, Pine Street, Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527 and Matawan Road.
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in East Brunswick, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
