Route 3 eastbound to be closed Friday night
in Secaucus
Closure necessary to repair Paterson Plank Road Bridge
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 3 eastbound will be closed tonight with traffic diverted to the service road as the project to repair the Paterson Plank Road bridge over Route 3 in Secaucus advances. Construction will not affect Route 3 westbound traffic.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 13 until 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14 the mainline of Route 3 will be closed completely with traffic directed to the service road to install new beams on the overpass. This is the second and last full closure of Route 3 eastbound necessary scheduled for this project. Traffic will be directed to the Route 3 eastbound service road with a tapered lane closure beginning just before the
Meadowlands/MetLife Stadium that will gradually close the two left lanes leaving the two right lanes open across the Route 3 bridge over the Hackensack River. After crossing the bridge, all traffic will be directed to the service road, which is two lanes.
In addition to the full closure of Route 3 scheduled for tonight, there will be overnight work during the week requiring single or double lane closures on Route 3 eastbound for the next few months. At least one lane of Route 3 eastbound mainline will be maintained week nights during construction. The project is expected to be completed by summer.
