NJDOT reopens Route 22 over Burke Parkway bridge

Completed construction project ensures the safety of the bridge
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the completion and reopening of the Route 22 over Burke Parkway Bridge in Union County.
Today, Monday, May 16, NJDOT’s contractor Power Concrete, Co. Inc., reopened all travel lanes on Route 22 westbound after completing final work on the Route 22 over Burke Parkway bridge deck.
The $2 million bridge deck replacement project was completed on time. The project was constructed in stages, which began with the new deck and parapets in July 2015. Each stage re-constructed approximately one third of the bridge deck at a time. The bridge deck replacement project included milling and paving the bridge approaches, and reconstructing the guide rail, sidewalk, and curb.
There is some landscaping and minor cleanup work that is expected to be done without daytime lane closures, but some overnight lane closures may be necessary.
NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
