Route 7 bridge over Conrail to be closed overnight this week in Kearny
Detour necessary as bridge repair project advances
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 7 will be closed overnight this week to allow for the rehabilitation of the Route 7 Bridge over Conrail railroad tracks in Kearny, Hudson County.
Each night this week, starting at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning, beginning tonight Monday, May 23 and continuing every night until Friday morning, May 26, NJDOT’s contractor Konkus Corporation, will close traffic on Route 7 in both directions in order to perform demolition work.
The following Route 7 detour will be in place in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights:
Traffic from Jersey City to Kearny:
• Motorists traveling westbound from Jersey City will be directed onto CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike/Harrison Avenue to Schuyler Avenue and back onto Route 7/Belleville Turnpike.
Traffic from Kearny to Jersey City:
• Motorists traveling eastbound from Kearny to Jersey City will be directed to Schuyler Avenue to Harrison Avenue/CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike to Route 7.
NJDOT has designed work on the $13.7 million bridge rehabilitation project to be performed in stages. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2017.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
