Bridge replacement project in Franklin requires detour of Somerset County Route 518
Bridge replacement project will advance in stages
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Somerset County Route 518 eastbound will be closed weekdays for the start of a project to replace the CR518 Bridge over the Delaware & Raritan Canal in Franklin.
Starting at 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., beginning on Wednesday, June 1 and continuing weekdays throughout the summer, NJDOT’s contractor Tarheel Enterprises Inc., will close a single lane on CR518 eastbound/Georgetown Franklin Turnpike and establish a detour for the start of bridge replacement work. CR518 westbound will be unaffected on the southern side of the bridge during the initial stage of construction.
The following detour will be in place starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 1:
Traffic from CR518 eastbound:
• Motorists traveling eastbound on CR518/Washington Street will be directed to make a right onto Crescent Avenue
• From Crescent Avenue, bear left on to CR605/Kingston Road
• From CR605/River Road motorists will make a left onto Route 27 north and then continue back onto CR518/Georgetown Franklin Turnpike.
NJDOT has designed work on the $2.75 million state-funded bridge replacement project to be performed in stages. The project is expected to be completed by late 2016.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
