Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week
on Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen
Necessary safety work will require road closures and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a road closure and detour beginning this week in Aberdeen, Monmouth County.
Starting tomorrow, from 7 a.m. Thursday, July 14, until 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, the two-way traffic on Cliffwood Avenue is scheduled to be closed between Rose Street and Locust Street, before the NJ TRANSIT grade crossing.
The following detours will be in place:
From Cliffwood Avenue eastbound:
• Motorists traveling eastbound on Cliffwood Avenue near Rose Street will be directed onto County Road, turn right onto Route 35 south, and make another right onto Cliffwood Avenue
From Cliffwood Avenue westbound:
• Motorists traveling westbound on Cliffwood Avenue near Locust Street will be directed to turn onto Matawan Avenue, turn right onto Aberdeen Road, and make another right onto Cliffwood Avenue
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Aberdeen, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
