Route 7 over Conrail Bridge full closure
overnight in Kearny
Detour necessary as bridge repair project advances
UPDATE


(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 7 will be closed in both directions overnight this Friday, and overnight next week to allow for the rehabilitation of the Route 7 Bridge over Conrail railroad tracks in Kearny, Hudson County.

Beginning tomorrow night Friday, July 15, and continuing until Saturday morning, July 16, and again next week on Monday night, July 18, and continuing weeknights until Friday, July 22, NJDOT’s contractor Konkus Corporation, will close traffic on Route 7 in order to install beams in the center of the bridge and pour concrete on the bridge approaches.

The following Route 7 detours will be in place.

Traffic from Jersey City to Kearny:
• Motorists traveling westbound from Jersey City will be directed onto CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike/Harrison Avenue to Schuyler Avenue and back onto Route 7/Belleville Turnpike.

Traffic from Kearny to Jersey City:
• Motorists traveling eastbound from Kearny to Jersey City will be directed to Schuyler Avenue to Harrison Avenue/CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike to Route 7.

The detours will be in place during these times:
• Friday, July 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Monday, July 18, through Thursday, July 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning
• Friday, July 22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, July 23

NJDOT has designed work on the $13.7 million federally-funded bridge rehabilitation project to be performed in stages. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2017.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
