NJDOT announces start of project to
rehabilitate the Route 33/34 Bridge
over Southern Division Railroad
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a project to rehabilitate the Route 33/34 Bridge over the Southern Division Railroad in Howell, Monmouth County.
Stage 1 of the project will begin this Monday, August 22, as NJDOT Contractor, South State, Inc., shifts traffic to the right on both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 33/34 from mile post 34.86 to 35.15. The shift will permit the installation of temporary shielding and construction barrier, removal of the existing median guiderail, and milling and paving.
The $3.5 million federally funded project will replace the superstructure of the bridge as well as repair minor issues with the substructure. NJDOT expects the project to be completed this winter.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the interchange improvements project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info. |
